Happy Mondays, The Psychedelic Furs, and Amusement Parks On Fire at The Pabst Theater

It’s sort of incredible than Shaun Ryder of Happy Mondays is still able to do reunion tours. Not only because his prodigious drug abuse and generally insane behavior should have killed him off years ago, but it’s also impressive that he even remembers being a member of this defining late ’80s “Madchester” band. But Ryder somehow survived the heady, rave-influenced underground British rock scene more or less intact, and was even able to pull it together for 2007’s Uncle Dysfunktional, the first Happy Mondays record in 15 years. It’s probably not an essential addition to the band’s discography, but at least Ryder is trying: Despite being reunited since 2000, tourmates Psychedelic Furs haven’t made a new record since 1991’s World Outside.
