The Head And The Heart at Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard (Summerfest)
The Head And The Heart makes music so damn warm and soulful you might be tricked into running outside barefoot in search of a campfire. The instrument-driven, folky six-piece band evokes a sentimentality familiar to the sounds of older-generation Americana with sweet, artful lyrics and layers of violin, tambourines, and clapping that actually work. Hailed for its solid musicianship, engaging shows, and a Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young-esque sound, the band first met at a Seattle open mic night in March 2010 and opened for Vampire Weekend just five months later. The Head And The Heart self-released its 2010 self-titled and sunny album, later signing to the venerable Sub Pop Records, which issued a remastered and expanded version of that debut in 2011.
