Hello Death + Plume Giant at Linneman's

Milwaukee’s Hello Death came to life in 2010 when Nathaniel Heuer enlisted a handful of his Altos bandmates for a decidedly dark chamber-folk group. The pared-down, vocal-heavy result is far removed from Altos’ lush post-rock, though both projects share a flair for the dramatic. Heuer’s dusty, sepia-toned baritone recalls the menace of Nick Cave, while the quivering, eerily beautiful backing vocals from Marielle Allschwang and Erin Wolf give Hello Death an otherworldly sheen. It’s a strange, intimate mix, but it pays off in deceptively simple yet haunting songs like “The Mistake” and “He Was The Problem,” as well as sing-song-y tracks like “Settlers,” featuring gorgeous lead vocals from Allschwang. Opener Plume Giant specializes in tightly woven three-part harmonies, finger-plucked guitars, and a plethora of old-timey strings.
