James Vincent McMorrow and Juniper Tar at Turner Hall Ballroom

You know how everyone loved Bon Iver partially because Justin Vernon locked himself in a rural Wisconsin cabin one winter and didn’t come out until the brilliant For Emma, Forever Ago was completed? Well, James Vincent McMorrow is kind of like an Irish Justin Vernon, except instead of a cabin, he locked himself in an Irish beach house. The album that followed from this self-imposed exile, Early In The Morning, is full of soft-voiced folksy pop music with an intriguing production style that could certainly be described as “Vernon-esque” (“Iver-esque?”), but still earns our seal of approval. Local group Juniper Tar, fresh from its excellent Since Before LP, opens the show.
