Being a smash-mouth insult comic has prevented Jeffrey Ross from landing a sitcom or talk show, yet loved and loathed as he is, Ross has been allotted frequent appearances in film and TV, appearing on Stuck On You, The Sarah Silverman Program, and Weeds. As the current New York Friars’ Club “Roastmaster General,” the odds are infinitely against him as he lobs quips like, “How is it possible that Courtney Love looks worse than Kurt Cobain?” Yet it takes balls, especially when saying it to her face at 2005’s Comedy Central Roast of Pam Anderson. More recent roasts of Donald Trump and Charlie Sheen have only heightened Ross’ nerve (and profile), as tonight’s “Jeff Ross Roasts America” show clearly attests.
