The Jesus Lizard and IfIHadAHiFi at Turner Hall Ballroom

When Chicago quartet The Jesus Lizard disbanded in 1999, it left a legacy of some of the decade’s best rock albums: caustic post-punk masterpieces anchored to hell by guitarist Duane Denison and vocalist David Yow. Both played with a rare level of raw—but hardly crude—furor, and the dynamism of their pairing still sounds fresh today. Denison and Yow, along with bassist David Sims and drummer Mac McNeilly—The Jesus Lizard’s original lineup—reunited in early 2009, and the group’s seminal albums were recently remastered and reissued by Touch And Go Records, a dutiful tribute to a truly unchained rock band.
