Jon Mueller, Sture Ericson, and Fred Lonberg-Holm at Sugar Maple
Milwaukee's Jon Mueller contributes to transcendent adventures of one kind as the drummer for Collections Of Colonies Of Bees, but makes something entirely more demanding of himself and audience under his own name. Mueller's almost fit to drop from the sky in 2001: A Space Odyssey: Capable of methodically beating away the line between pure repetition and pure chaos on his drumkit for extended solo pieces, he's a monolith to insane, isolated endurance. Heavy and disorienting as 2008's Metals could get, Mueller's work always carries a sense of purpose. His 2009 album, Physical Changes, casts his formidable attack in a lot of different lights, courtesy of his collaborators' minimal instrumentation and tactile drones. Here, he'll be joined by Swedish saxophonist Sture Ericson and Chicago cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm.
