Kelly Hogan and The Snowbirds at Cactus Club
Georgia native Kelly Hogan, the one-time frontwoman of The Jody Grind and Rock*A*Teens, croons a type of tunes that she’s dubbed “makeout music” and which falls effortlessly amid country, jazz, soul, and classic pop influences. Hogan signed to Chicago’s Bloodshot Records shortly after arriving in the late ’90s, releasing two full lengths. Now with ANTI- Records, Hogan released I Like To Keep Myself In Pain in 2012, her first solo album since 2001’s Because It Feel Good. Despite its lineup of notable contributors—Robbie Fulks, Andrew Bird, Robyn Hitchcock, M. Ward, Stephin Merritt, Vic Chesnutt—Pain is fully Hogan’s album, built around her captivating country-tinged vocals. Currently living in Southern Wisconsin, Hogan is also a full-time member of Neko Case’s backup band, a badass title in and of itself.
