Marc Maron at The Pabst Theater
Marc Maron came up in the club circuit in New York with Louis C.K. and David Cross in the late ’80s and early ’90s, made regular appearances on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, and honed his aggressive rants to somewhere between Woody Allen’s self-deprecation and Lenny Bruce’s angry, confrontational stand-up. Shortly after the release of his third stand-up album, 2009’s Final Engagement, Maron became something of a Mitch Hurwitz to Air America’s Fox, seeing his third radio show cut loose. Maron drifted only briefly before finding a new home for his politically tinged, darkly acerbic rants on his acclaimed podcast, WTF With Marc Maron, wherein he coaxes hilarious, depressing, and hilariously depressing stories out of his comedian colleagues. Maron released his fourth stand-up album, This Has To Be Funny, in 2011, and his semi-autobiographical IFC TV show, Maron, starts this spring.
