Menahan Street Band and De La Buena at Mad Planet
Brooklyn, New York’s Menahan Street Band may not be a household name, but its lineup—which includes members of Sharon Jones And The Dap-Kings, Antibalas, and Budos Band—should be enough to turn the heads and shake the asses of even those not familiar with Daptone Records’ deep bench of funk and soul acts. If that’s not enough, casual listeners may be familiar with Menahan’s quirky, rhythmic sound through the filter of Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Curren$y, who have all liberally sampled from the group’s 2008 album Make The Road By Walking. Either way, Milwaukee will get a formal introduction when the band takes a few days off from backing Charles Bradley to make an intimate appearance at Mad Planet.
