Night Moves, Elusive Parallelograms, and Castle Thunder at Stonefly Brewing Company
Two things will catch you immediately off guard about groove-rock group Night Moves, a newish project from former members of dance punks The Battle Royale. First, the depth of the trio’s musical lineage is lost when looking at the slight pups. Todd Rundgren? The Flying Burrito Brothers? These are not influences you’d typically associate with PBR-swillin’, college-age musicians. Second, the band’s amorous projections are jarring—in a good way. Frontman John Pelant yearns and howls all over the group’s excellent debut Colored Emotions like he’s ready to explode. The soulful and sexy results render Night Moves one of the Twin Cities’ most promising new groups. In late 2011, Night Moves penned a deal with Domino Records, giving them some legs at national fests like SXSW in 2012.
