Nobunny, Bad Sports, Cozy, and The Get Drunk DJs at Miramar Theatre
Following in the masked tradition of fellow Bay Area bands like The Mummies, the misleadingly monikered Nobunny conceals his true identity behind a big, fluffy rabbit head—but that’s pretty much the only thing about him that isn’t totally stripped bare. His sparse bubblegum punk clearly graduated from the Ramones school, where it majored in three-chord sing-alongs with a minor in ’60s frat-rock revival. That sound receives a measured dose of sophistication on 2010’s First Blood, where a viola manages to sneak into “Breathe,” while some terse, Chuck Berry-style storytelling marks “Never Been Kissed.” It’s still a record that features a track called “(Do The) Fuck Yourself,” though, so don’t expect any big departures from Nobunny’s slithering, frequently pants-less live show.
