Orca Team, Cray Crays, The Midwest Beat, and The Olives at Quarters Rock 'N Roll Palace
The post-punk surf-rockers of Orca Team may have moved from Portland to Seattle, but perpetual gray skies haven’t dampened their eternal-summer sound. Frontman Leif Anders’ faraway croon still layers over bass grooves that pack songs with reverb-soaked ’60s nostalgia, and while the band may refer to its songwriting as minimalistic, its lyrics have a distinct surfer-dude simplicity. Choruses like “Gonna dance all night and stay up real late” are concerned with nothing but riding the chill times for as long as they roll. Despite rarely clocking a track over two-and-a-half minutes, every song on the 2010 debut Let It Go manages to capture the sprawling hours of a lazy day spent at the beach. A new album, Restraint, will be released this summer.
