Paul Collins' Beat + Trolley, Sugar Stems at Club Garibaldi
Paul Collins got his start playing drums in seminal mid-’70s power pop band The Nerves—remembered today as the group that originally recorded Blondie’s hit “Hanging On The Telephone”—but his most lasting musical endeavor is Paul Collins’ Beat. The group’s 1979 debut, The Beat, is a minor classic among skinny-tie aficionados, and while nothing Collins has put out since has received similar acclaim, he’s kept on making records and touring. He remains popular in Europe, especially in Spain, and in 2006 he revived Paul Collins’ Beat with Spanish musicians, including ex-pat Wisconsinite Chris Bongers. Collins released the self-explanatory King Of Power Pop! in 2010, and appears here with two of Milwaukee’s finest purveyors of power pop, Trolley and Sugar Stems.
