Portugal. The Man, Hockey, and Drug Rug at Turner Hall Ballroom
Irritating punctuation aside, Portugal. The Man remains fairly accessible with its organic and lively prog-pop, even as its discography seemingly grows by the minute. The Portland band is certainly bordering on prolific: Since its inception in mid-2004, in a post-Anatomy Of A Ghost world, the act has consistently delivered new material year after year, each EP and full-length building upon Portugal’s increasing interest in soulful, ’60s-styled sing-alongs and epic free jazz. This year’s The Satanic Satanist and its acoustic counterpart, The Majestic Majesty, are poppier than past efforts, an MGMT-like foray into psychedelic folk-rock and croony, feel-good vocals.
