Anyone who has walked past Riverwest Film And Video lately has probably noticed something new in the window. A pair of microphones next to a computer give off the appearance of a low-tech radio booth—which is exactly what it is. Riverwest Radio is an Internet-only station (Riverwestradio.com, natch) that strives to be a true “community radio.” Unlike other local stations, there are no copyrighted materials, no ASCAP fees, and nothing that can be found on Spotify or YouTube. Instead, it’s a station created by a community, and nothing more. Regular shows include everything from poetry readings and avant-garde live performances to neighborhood news and Packers talk. Tonight, the station takes over Linneman’s for a multimedia benefit blow-out.
