Rock N Roller Remote Controller at Linneman's
Some people in Milwaukee might have the creativity to put together a show like Rock N Roller Remote Controller, but very few would have the stamina to actually produce four episodes. Each is longer than a half-hour TV sitcom, but produced without a studio, crew, or budget. The show follows Tabman—a cross between Pee-wee Herman and Doctor Who, who wields a magic remote control and harbors a taste for Tab soda—on a narrative that often digresses into musical numbers featuring local and national bands. Each sequence is visually distinct: Some are off-handed and goofy, some are precise and bizarre, but all are imaginative and scrappy in a fashion reminiscent of Michel Gondry. The last installment stepped up its game with handmade sets, stop-motion animation, and special effects, and the newest episode featuring Liquor Store, Natural Child, Holy Shit!, The Elephant Walk, and Drugs Dragons promises to be even more ambitious and original.
