    Sindoolaa at Turner Hall Ballroom

West African music has emerged as an unlikely influence for white-bread indie-rock bands in the last few years, with everyone from Vampire Weekend to The Dodos setting bright pop melodies to invigorating polyrhythms. For a taste of African music performed by actual Africans, there’s Milwaukee’s Sindoolaa drum and dance ensemble, founded in 2001 by Senegal native Oumar Sagna. Sindoolaa presents a beat-happy barrage with a variety of percussion instruments, including kora, balafon, sabar, kotiro, bougarabou, tama, djembe, and djun-jung. This show will benefit the school Sagna attended in his hometown of Diatock.
