Nine-man horror-masked Iowan metal crew Slipknot left behind superstar producer Rick Rubin when it came time to record its 2008 disc, All Hope Is Gone, but it didn’t seem to hurt the band’s commercial power: The album was its first to debut at No. 1. Apparently there’s just something about meatheads yelling angrily that touches the heartstrings (and opens the purse strings) of the American public. Who knew?
