Sound Tribe Sector 9—STS9 for short—got its start down in Georgia, but the band picked up steam when it moved to Santa Cruz, Calif., at the beginning of the decade. Thanks in part to its willingness to tour like crazy and its stretched-out shows, the jamtronica outfit has amassed an impressive fan base. Last year’s solid Peaceblaster is accompanied by an informational website (peaceblaster.com) with a progressive bent that falls in line with STS9’s politics. Though the band dabbled in goofily named side projects like L.I.F.E. and the Santa Cruz Hemp All-Stars, the focus has remained on the vastly more popular STS9 in recent years.
