Spoon and Jay Reatard at The Riverside Theater
Austin boys who made exponentially good, Spoon has only gotten better and more mysterious with every measure of success, and it’s managed to do it while commanding its own singular sound—one that’s increasingly been cited as an influence on younger bands. Of course, few other groups can approach the kind of lithe grooves of 2007’s critically hailed Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, and it’s safe to say that anyone still trying will just be left floundering once again by the record's forthcoming follow-up, Transference, due out in January. Joining Spoon for this special New Year's performance is Jay Reatard, one of the finest—if also cantankerous—garage rockers currently kicking up an unholy ruckus. This show will also include a midnight countdown and balloon drop, live DJs, snacks, and a free Point beer tasting.
