The Steepwater Band and Miles Nielsen And The Rusted Hearts at Shank Hall
Led by singer-guitarist Jeff Massey, The Steepwater Band echoes The Allman Brothers Band in its combination of big, edgy guitar sounds and classic, old-school blues riffs. While Steepwater is certainly another roots-rock band for the dudes, it gets a friendly, fun sound out of its power-trio format, loosening up for plenty of guitar leads but never straying too far from a blues foundation. And hey, judging by the title of their 2008 album, Grace And Melody, and the 2010 single “The Stars Look Good Tonight,” these guys know there’s more to life than just running up and down blues scales. 2011’s Clava is another solid disc stuffed with fuzzy, unashamed bar room stompers.
