Stephen Kellogg And The Sixers and Graham Colton at Shank Hall
Songwriter Stephen Kellogg's most recent album with his band The Sixers, 2009’s The Bear, sees his work leveling out at an agreeable middle ground. As a whole, Kellogg and band aim to sound like a smoother Bruce Springsteen or Tom Petty—and certainly do so with less weight and personality—and they've avoided sounding as overly contrived as many other groups in the same mild, constrained territory. Kellogg still finds room in said territory for tasteful arrangements and mature-enough songwriting—of which The Bear has plenty in its pop-rock mix—but the abundance of clichés still keeps the band from quite standing out.
