Toshi Reagon is an imposing physical presence, but it’s nothing compared to her voice, which she belts out with the power of an army of gospel singers. After Lenny Kravitz handpicked her to be his opening act for his first world tour in the early ’90s, Reagon dropped out of college and began establishing a reputation for high-energy performances drawing on rock, R&B, and blues in the New York City club scene. Over the years she’s attracted some high-profile fans, including Elvis Costello, who invited Reagon and her band BIGLovely to back him up on The Late Show With David Letterman.
