The Uptown Savages and Tim Cook And The Riverwesterners at Kochanski's Concertina Beer Hall
The Uptown Savages play self-described “desperate and greasy” rock ’n’ roll infused with R&B and rockabilly, which will never go out of style even if it’s hasn’t been really been fashionable since the Eisenhower administration. Frontman Jon Ziegler certainly knows the genre inside and out; you can hear him preach the gospel of retro rebellion as Jonny Z on WMSE’s Friday morning mainstay The Chickenshack. But the power of the insurgent music the Savages draw on is felt most vividly in sweaty bars filled with drunken people blowing off steam after a long week.
