What Made Milwaukee Famous and The Stone Foxes at Shank Hall
With all the lo-fi gimmickry, calculated disarray, and bedroom-born coyness dominating the scene, it’s easy to forget about a band like What Made Milwaukee Famous, whose earnest, multifaceted pop constructs lack rebellious grit but nevertheless contain plenty of swagger. (The group’s name comes from the Jerry Lee Lewis song of the same name.) Having more or less sat the past few years out, the band now has a new album in the hopper, You Can’t Fall Off The Floor, which offers few fresh reminders that diverse songcraft and genuinely melodic singing aren’t solely the province of the olds.
