Wolfgang Schaefer, Panoramic And True, High Plains, and The Scrubbers at Frank's Power Plant
At first blush, Milwaukee’s Wolfgang Schaefer may seem like just another alt-country singer-songwriter in a town already lousy with them. Dig deeper, however, and a surprising and refreshing experimental bent easily separates Schaefer from the rest of the pack. For a quick example, look no further than the kitchen-sink din that precedes “Pocket Full Of Pills,” the opening track of Schaefer’s latest album, Typewriter. Along with his brother Benjamin, Schaefer turned to the virtual open guitar case of Kickstarter to fund the record, a move that is practically mandated by the Internet gods of the 21st century. But unlike so many other crowd-sourced projects, the disc turned out to be well worth a modest donation.
