Zebras, Disguised As Birds, and Hot Coffin at Cactus Club
Madison band Zebras put out a seven-song set called Parasitic Clones Under The Strong Arm Of The Robot Machine in 2009, and it just might be the sharpest, fullest-sounding introduction yet to Zebras’ music—a frantic-yet-catchy collision of shrill, shrieked vocals, chromatic guitar and synth squiggles, and tightly syncopated drums to hold it all together. A new self-titled album, released this summer, is heavy as hell, with pummeling lead track “The Dying Sea,” sliced to ribbons by Vincent Presley’s freaky acid-etched yelp, setting the tone for the rest of the massive metal assault.
