A.V. Club: Best of the Decade

venue Cubanitas

  • Tia Brindel
Cubanitas deserves credit not only for kick-starting Milwaukee Street’s transformation from trendy club destination to trendy restaurant destination, but also for bringing simple, bountiful Cuban food to the city. The nightly specials are always a good bet, especially Wednesday’s Cuban pot roast, served with spicy chorizo sausage on white rice. Ropa vieja is another Cuban staple, a shredded flank steak in a Creole sauce much more appetizing than the translation (“old clothes”) would suggest. Cubanitas doesn’t skimp on the portions, but hearty eaters are advised to load up on the empanadas, or customize your meal with a selection or two from the ample side menu.
