New York Comedy Festival: Ricky Gervais at Carnegie Hall - Isaac Stern Auditorium
Ricky Gervais is something of a late bloomer when it comes to stand-up. In fact, his path to the stage is almost the direct opposite of the usual stand-up-gets-sitcom model. Gervais was a sketch writer, radio host, and a bit actor before he started work on The Office, and it wasn’t until that sharp, finely tuned show became heralded as one of the best sitcoms in TV history that Gervais decided to give stand-up a try. His style onstage is a mix of dashing, doofy, and dry, much like that of his character’s, so expect to be laughing at things that aren’t even necessarily funny.
