Come to The A.V. Club’s Toronto launch party, tonight!
More Just Announced
Hey there, friends and amigos, acquaintances and well-wishers, sycophants and hangers-on! What are you doing tonight? Sitting at home watching Gossip Girl on DVD or building a Puzz 3D or whatever-the-hell it is that people do? Effectively nothing? Naw, don’t do that. Come to the Toronto launch of The Onion and The A.V. Club at The Drake Hotel! Tonight! At 8 p.m.! Why not?
For only $5 at the door (all proceeds go to the United Way, which is great for you, karma-wise), you get a free drink ticket. This pretty much equals out to a free drink, or a free entry, if you do the math. Jay Ferguson from Sloan and Justin Peroff from Broken Social Scene are supposed to be there DJing, apparently. So you can come, huddle in a corner, and get in A.V. Club comments section-style slap-fights about whether Sloan or Broken Social Scene is the essential Canadian rock ’n’ roll musical group. Doesn’t that sound like way more fun than stewing in your basement apartment watching Mike & Molly, or whatever? Sure, it does. Also, we’ll have copies of the first Toronto-centric issue of The Onion, equipped with local stories, listings, and other frills that really make it feel like it’s yours. It’s suitable for framing.
So come on by, flip through the first issue, grab a drink, and toast to our success. (Or toast to our demise; we really don’t care, as long as you paid to get in.) And say hello! I’ll be the guy sweating through a corduroy jacket and pinging out business cards like Gambit from the X-Men. See you there, mes amis! It promises to be a to-do of Dangerfieldian proportions!
