Great Bloomers, Gavin Gardiner, and Megan Bonnell at The Dakota Tavern
Though Toronto’s Great Bloomers seem to fit squarely within the city’s roots rock and alt-country revival, alongside acts like The Wooden Sky and Cuff The Duke, there’s a rollicking, foot-stomping quality that pervades most of the band’s shows, making the Bloomers feel at once like plaid-clad T.O. indie rock personified, and a hard-working bar band. Though the band’s lineup has turned over almost entirely since the release of 2009’s Speak Of Trouble (save for songwriter-vocalist-guitarist Lowell Sostomi), Bloomers’ rowdy, sing-along-friendly live vibe has weathered the personal changes.
