More Music Notes
Twin Cities’ music scene is a busy place with a long list of events. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you’re bound to miss something important. That’s okay—we’re here to help, with a weekly roundup of some of the enticing music news in town.
• The Minnesota Zoo announced the lineup for its 17th annual summer concert series, and this year includes many-a-throwback, such as Boyz II Men and (get ready for the zoo-appropriate performer!) The Monkees. Jeremy Messersmith, The Suicide Commandos, Florence And The Machine, and The Suburbs will also make headlining appearances amongst the groundhogs, gorillas, and the pigs (pre-pork-pulling). See the full summer lineup here.
• And speaking of Jeremy Messersmith, he released an advance video earlier this week of this Saturday’s event, Works For Words, sponsored by word-centric 89.3 The Current at the Fitzgerald Theater. It’s an evening fueled by lyrically driven songs, and the video he released focuses on some commonly misunderstood lyrics. Also be sure to check out Five Favorites with Jeremy, published here yesterday.
• Minneapolis Fucking Rocks recently interviewed Minnesota native Anni Rossi, who will be performing on April 16 as part of the String Theory series. She chatted with MFR about Snoop Dogg; her dislike of Florence And The Machine (see above!); and her preferred burrito, obviously.
• Gimme Noise posted an interview with Cut Copy’s Tim Hoey before the band’s show this Saturday at First Ave. The interview explains how shitty it is to have your record leaked pre-release, pointing to the lack of control artists have over their music once that happens.
• And finally, a song to set this weekend to: P.O.S.’s remix of TV On The Radio’s “Will Do.”
