Andrew Bird announces cozy Minneapolis shows

Sometimes it pays to live in a place that has exceptionally cold, dark winters. Andrew Bird, in an attempt to bring some cheer to the upcoming months, has announced a pair of special sets at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral. The Dec. 10-11 shows are built around the concept of "Gezelligheid," a Dutch term that loosely translates to "social coziness." Both shows will be intimate solo sets mainly consisting of instrumental violin pieces. They will be lit only by ambient sources and amplified only by giant acoustic horns, sort of like Unplugged if the Amish ran MTV.

In Bird's own words: "I'm inspired to do this based on childhood memories of performing Handel's "Messiah" in various churches on an annual basis. ... I want the audience to be both lifted and comforted as we head into another cold and dark winter."

Ticket info can be found on Bird's website.
