Reflection Eternal
More Weekend Agenda
That disturbing tick-tock sound you hear isn't the intro to Pink Floyd's "Time." It's the steady slipping away of another Twin Cities summer. With that in mind, don't sleep on this season's remaining outdoor concert events. Friday finds singer-songwriter Dar Williams sharing a bill with once-and-future local Haley Bonar for the Minnesota Zoo's second-to-last show of the year. Closer to downtown, conscious hip-hop unit Solillaquists Of Sound appears at 7th Street Entry, while Dream Theater and Dweezil Zappa head up a night of retro-prog delights at the Orpheum. Cinephiles and milk-sipping sadists will be interested to find Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange at the Riverview for two nights.

On Saturday, more al fresco festivities can be found at the Red Stag Block Party in Northeast, featuring Roma Di Luna and E.L.nO. atop a diverse lineup of hometown acts. "Sex And Candy" creator and Minneapolis expat John Wozniak brings his stalwart alt-rock outfit Marcy Playground to the Fine Line. A pre-tabloid Jake Gyllenhaal gets a late-night showcase as the Uptown Theatre screens cult favorite Donnie Darko. The weekend's biggest hip-hop draw is undoubtedly Reflection Eternal—a.k.a. Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek—holding forth at First Avenue with some formidable openers.

Sunday's club fare includes a few major happenings on the West Bank: Local indie favorite Cloud Cult plays the outdoor Cabooze Plaza in prepration for an indefinite hiatus; the Cedar Cultural Center wrangles a slew of alt-country purveyors for the Bloodshot Records Beer-B-Q; and the Triple Rock Social Club presents its quarterly Gastro Non Grata showcase of raw punk rock and refined cooking. Over in St. Paul, the Turf Club hosts the distinctively uncomfortable comedy of Neil Hamburger.
