More Music Notes

Our music scene is a busy place, with lots happening. If you don’t obsessively visit the local blogs, alt-weeklies, and other outlets, you could miss something important! That’s okay—we’re here to help with a weekly roundup of some of the more enticing news happening around town.

• Lots of music goin’ on in the Cities this weekend, from the previously mentioned John Maus show to an unusually intimate two-night gig for Yo La Tengo at the 400 Bar. And tomorrow, home-recording legend R. Stevie Moore has a performance lined up (also at the 400 Bar, further evidence that it’s really picking up its game as a venue). Just a few among many sure-to-be-memorable shows coming up.

• And if you’re looking for a more politically constructive way to spend the weekend, do be sure to check out the enormous, nationwide Pride Weekend. Events include a ton of music, including headliners Exposé, and, of course, some marching and stuff. Vita.mn has put together a nice list of events.

• The much squawked-about Facebook event encouraging everyone to boycott this year’s Basilica Block Party has been taken down due to excessive trolling/flaming, City Pages reports. No word yet on whether the boycott itself will be successful, although with headliners like David Gray and G. Love, it won’t be much of a challenge for some of us to abstain.

• Aaaaand speaking of City Pages, it’s never too late to read the very detailed live-blog of last weekend’s Rock The Garden performance. Just kidding, it’s way too late! But there is a nice slideshow of the day, and the Walker has produced a bee-you-tiful time-lapse video recap.
