HOLIDAY SALE AT THE ONION STORE

Bedlam Theatre forced out of Cedar-Riverside location

After four years at 1501 S. Sixth St., Bedlam Theatre is moving on. The radical theater company/counter-culture social hub/cafe received a notice terminating its lease two weeks ago. According to a press release, the Bedlam staff knew the space wasn't a permanent one, but the move came sooner than expected. The theater is being forced to relocate to accommodate another West Bank organization displaced due to Riverside Plaza's renovation project.

A post on Bedlam's website says the search for a more permanent location is expected to take 1-3 years, though it's also considering temporary options, including opening a short-term replacement site as soon as the end of the year or existing as a mobile, venue-less theater until a new location is found. The theater, which will leave 1501 by Sept. 7, is currently working with artists to move upcoming events to other locations. In the meantime, get your fill of the remaining programming—like a Bicycle Film Festival afterparty taking place tomorrow night—and be on the lookout for farewell celebrations.
