News Net Bigfoot has a summer house in Minnesota, maybe

Since sifting through dull newspapers, hyperbolic blogs, and overflowing RSS feeds for meaningful news can be an arduous process, News Net catches and compiles both the amusing and the significant reports that were overlooked throughout the week. Here are some things to think about as the weekend begins.

• When they’re not busy studying the elusive David Bowie, cryptozoologists spend a lot of time bellyaching about the existence of the Sasquatch. Now, thanks to the YouTube-searching efforts a few dedicated crazy people, there is “evidence” that Bigfoot has a summer home right here in Minnesota! A newly surfaced video shows what appears to be a nude Robin Williams scampering through the woods near the St. Croix River. How will we know this is the real deal? Better call Monster Quest guest and U Of M Senior Scientist Curt Nelson.

• Tomorrow is David Lynch Night at the Loring Theater. The theater is showing Blue Velvet, playing Lynch-themed music, and having a costume contest. If you don’t go, we’ll send you a love letter.

• Tonight’s edition of Vita.mn’s Summer Music And Movies series will feature a performance from local superstars Peter Wolf Crier in the Lake Harriet band shell, followed immediately by a performance from international legend David Bowie in the 1986 cult classic Labyrinth. Come on down, sample the incredible snack stand menu, and enjoy a free concert and glam-inspired puppetry epic.

• And while we’re in weird territory, let’s take a minute to dip into the unusual literary world of Kate Kysar. The local poet takes a different approach to promoting her work—in March, she celebrated a book launch by having other people read her work at the Loft Literary Center. Now, in yet another community-building event, she has commissioned five artists to create pieces inspired by her poetry. The “strange and wonderful” exhibit, running at the Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts in Fridley, will open on Aug. 20, with the art on display for six weeks. Attendees will have to guess at the meaning of each piece until Kysar reads her work on the last day of the show. Details here.
