Bright Eyes, String Theory Music Festival, and more
More Just Announced
Here’s an event to make you wish you hadn’t given up the cello in seventh grade: For four days in April, the String Theory Music Festival will shine a spotlight on the noble bow-wielder. The fest not only brings together locals including Chris Koza, Dessa, and Chan Poling, but it’s also attracting out-of-towners like Owen Pallett and members of DeVotchKa, Dirty Projectors, and The Bang On A Can All-Stars.
Conor Oberst knows a little something about string arrangements, but there’s no word yet on what Bright Eyes’ upcoming First Avenue sets will be like. What we do know is that he’s chosen two surprising openers for the two-night stand: Superchunk and Wild Flag. The former you probably know as the seminal indie-rockers who ended a long absence from the Twin Cities last month, while the latter is composed of Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney), Mary Timony (Helium), and Rebecca Cole (The Minders). You might want to show up early for that one.
Update: First Avenue's announcement that Superchunk and Wild Flag would open the show has been rescinded. Curses.
