Broken Social Scene playing First Avenue this fall
More Just Announced
The group that made it hip to carelessly refer to every other band as a “collective,” Toronto’s Broken Social Scene thrives on a sprawling lineup of Canadian indie-rock’s finest. The years since its 2005 self-titled third album have seen books (This Book Is Broken) and films (This Movie Is Broken) dedicated to the band, as well as a significant increase in profile for its members—including Feist, Emily Haines, Amy Millan, Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, and Jason Collett—which makes the just-released Forgiveness Rock Record one of 2010’s most anticipated records. Like other BSS albums, it takes a lot of chances on near-chaotic pop that’s almost always better for its excess of hooks, energy, and collaborators. It should sound great when the band hits First Avenue on Oct. 4.
