When it comes to American humor writers who aren’t named Dave Barry, there’s arguably no author who’s more universally beloved than David Sedaris. With his sharp wit, self-deprecating satire, and powerful mixture of biting social critique and frequently heartbreaking personal anecdotes, Sedaris has made himself into something of a hero to the public radio-listening set. Almost a year after releasing his most recent work, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, Sedaris is still working hard to promote his animal-themed collection of short stories. Now, with the announcement of a 50-stop book tour, it looks like the ever-industrious essayist will have to get used to staying that way.
Kicking off later this month in Amsterdam, the tour will bring Sedaris and his latest work—which includes stories about barnyard animals partaking in Secret Santa gift exchanges and animals in prison Alcoholics Anonymous meetings—on the road for an string of public readings and book signings. Sedaris will stop at the State Theater Nov. 13. For those who’ve fantasized about being a guest at Sedaris and his sister Amy’s Thanksgiving dinners, this will probably be the closest you’ll get.
