Just Announced Dawes announces New Year’s Eve concert at the Varsity

As the classic holiday standard asks, “What are you doing New Year’s Eve?” If you’re one of the many Dawes fans who are still bummed about not getting tickets to the band’s sold-out Nov. 4 co-headlining date with the similarly minded Blitzen Trapper, chances are you’re already picking out an outfit for Dawes’ just-announced New Year’s Eve concert at the Varsity Theater.

Paired with locals Caroline Smith And The Good Night Sleeps, Dawes will ring in 2012 with its old-fashioned Laurel Canyon-style folk harmonies that bring to mind predecessors like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and The Black Crowes.

Tickets to the show will set you back $31, although you might want to spring for the $60 VIP passes (it is a holiday, after all) because there are no words that will make you feel fancier on 2011’s last stand than “mezzanine access.”

If you can’t wait until the end of the year, The Current is about to kick off a contest where you’ll have the chance to win one of 10 pairs of tickets to sit in the audience for Dawes’ intimate UBS Forum session with the station’s own Bill Deville.
