Just Announced Death Cab For Cutie announces small-room tour

The band will possess Twin Cities hearts May 21 at First Avenue

Clean those glasses and tighten up those beards, bros. Death Cab For Cutie has announced some new tour dates, including a stop at First Avenue May 21. The dates—dubbed the Underplay Tour—are, in fact, total underplays for the band, meaning they’re much smaller rooms than fans have come to expect from Ben Gibbard and company. It’s a smart move for the indie-ish darlings, especially considering their new record, Codes And Keys, is due out May 31.

The tour kicks off May 18 in Toronto and criss-crosses the country, ending June 9 in San Francisco. The Lonely Forest will open most of the dates, save a few gigs with Bright Eyes. Unfortunately for the rest of the country, the band’s planning on touring only sporadically this year. As Gibbard told Spin, “I would love to find myself making a record a year from now rather than moving into our seventh straight month of touring.” Can’t blame the guy, really. Maybe he wants more time at home with the little lady.

Tickets for the Underplay Tour are $35 and will go on sale to the general public this Saturday.
