Just Announced Dntel at Triple Rock in August, re-releasing classic Life Is Full Of Possibilities on Sub Pop this fall

Dntel, Life Is Full Of Possibilities, tour

IDM wizard Dntel—better known as the half of The Postal Service that isn’t Ben Gibbard by all but aficionados of beardy electronic music—is headed out on a tour this summer. Minneapolis gets to enjoy his warped electronic compositions and performance come Aug. 11, when he visits the Triple Rock. Accompanying this tour announcement is the news that Sub Pop, home to Dntel since 2007’s Dumb Luck, is aiming to rectify its past mistakes in not signing the man (real name Jimmy Tamborello) years before. To that end, the label is reissuing his classic 2001 album, Life Is Full Of Possibilities.

Considering that not only did the album snag an impressive 9.3 rating and glowing review from Pitchfork, but also marked the origin of that infamous Ben Gibbard collaboration via the proto-Postal Service track “(This Is) The Dream Of Evan And Chan,” this should be exciting news to anyone that missed out on the album the first time around. For those of you yawning and making dismissive, “Yeah, I rocked that disc back in ’01” gestures our way, rest assured you get something too (well, something besides the chance to see him play live, as mentioned).

You’ll have to wait for October to grab it, to coincide with the record’s 10th anniversary, but Sub Pop is pulling out all the stops on the re-issue, remastering the entire disc and incorporating a second disc full of B-sides, remixes new and old, and studio outtakes into the mix. For those so hip and Dntel-obsessed they already found that stuff online years ago, there’s also the inducement of a sweet, dual LP release of the disc, the first time it’s ever been available on vinyl (the bonus material comes as download, so you vinyl junkies don’t miss out on a thing, either).
