When Sean Tillman returns home next month to strut his funky stuff at the
Turf Club, where he headlines March 13 as his alter ego
Har Mar Superstar, he’ll also take some time to do some charitable work directly benefiting Twin Citians in need. Specifically, those Twin Citians who are thirsty or, due to exigent circumstances, not drunk enough. Tillman will man the liquor bottles as a guest bartender from 8 to 10 p.m. March 11 at Grumpy’s Downtown and March 14 at Grumpy’s Northeast, mixing drinks and pouring beers. The singer has a penchant for stripping down to his tighty-whiteys when he’s on stage, but we’d be surprised if he doesn’t stay clothed while moonlighting as a booze-bringer—otherwise, where would he put his tips?
Grumpy’s, which is owned by Amphetamine Reptile Records founder Tom Hazelmyer, has been friendly to the punk-rock and art scenes for years. In December,
King Buzzo of Melvins and Adam Jones of Tool did a similar guest-bartending stint; according to one of our commenters, Buzzo's specialty that night was "a double Jagermeister with a Vienna sausage floating in it." That's probably another reason to hope Tillman keeps his clothes on. Har Mar himself played a secret last-minute show in February 2008 at the downtown bar after his sold-out
Fine Line show earlier that night.
