The annual Taste Of Minnesota offers a savory helping of aging metal glory as Judas Priest and Whitesnake headline Friday's festivities. At the Minnesota Zoo, local reggae ace Wain McFarlane shares the stage with genre legends Toots & The Maytals. Cirque Du Soleil's mind-bending KOOZA kicks off at the History Theatre, while local musicans bend their personas in a collective tribute to tribute to Rush, The Ramones, and Nirvana at the 501 Club.

Saturday's Independence Day holiday brings a motherlode of human entertainment along with the flammable stuff. Early in the day, M.anifest and Haley Bonar head up an outdoor celebration at the Walker Art Center. Later, local punk mainstay Dillinger Four holds forth at its recurring Dillinger Fourth Of July shindig at the Triple Rock. British citizenship notwithstanding, Elvis Costello makes a mighty fine headliner for St. Paul's Taste Of Minnesota bash. The Uptown hosts a screening of the decidedly American comedy Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Here's a fan-created compilation of Ferris Bueller's most quotable moments:

On Sunday, the Taste Of Minnesota mayhem hits an apex with unflappable pop-culture icon Bret Michaels. Equally famous and just as prone to heavy makeup is Gwen Stefani, who hits town for the big No Doubt reunion gig at the Xcel Energy Center. Metal nerds will swarm the Varsity to see, hear, and quite possibly mispronounce Sunn O))). Talented country heiress Rosanne Cash plays the first of two nights at the Dakota, while hip-hop hitmaker The-Dream aims to prove he's more than just a studio whiz at Epic.
Because it's required viewing for anyone with an Internet connection, here's the clip of Bret Michaels getting clotheslined at this year's Tony Awards telecast:
