Half-Cocked Concepts (1998)

More Back Catalog

It should be enough to simply point out that the members of Killsadie have gone on to form or join some seriously heavy-hitting bands, both locally (guitarist Knol Tate with both The Hidden Chord and Askeleton) and nationally (drummer Erin Tate with Minus The Bear, guitarist Jay Clark with Pretty Girls Make Graves, and singer Steve Snere with These Arms Are Snakes). But in addition to that considerable lineage, Killsadie has turned into a most unlikely source for hip-hop sampling. Doomtree/Rhymesayers artist P.O.S. opened his sophomore album Audition with a song called “Half-Cocked Concepts” that was built around the backbone of “Nervous Creatures,” a song from Killsadie’s debut full-length. The sample comes from that song’s spare middle, but by and large, Half-Cocked Concepts mines a vein two notches fiercer and one notch less abstract than At The Drive-In’s In/Casino/Out, with a clear debt to D.C. hardcore thrown in.
