Lilith Fair rises from the dead, sets sights on Minneapolis

Halloween is a great time of year to bring things back from the dead (second only to Easter), so the timing on Sarah McLachlan's announcement yesterday about reviving Lilith Fair was pretty close to perfect. No artists or dates have been mentioned yet, but Minneapolis was among the cities she promised to hit in 2010.
McLachlan founded the female-focused tour, which ran every summer from 1997-99, to make up for the disadvantages women face in the music industry. Unsurprisingly, the festival was made the butt of plenty of jokes. Haters stereotyped the lineup as hippieish, despite the participation of distinctly non-granola acts like The Cardigans, Missy Elliott, Christina Aguilera, Cibo Matto, Bif Naked, Queen Latifah, Sandra Bernhard, and a still-teenage Tegan and Sara. Despite the ugly comments, Lilith was the top-grossing touring festival of 1997, even besting a Lollapalooza lineup featuring The Prodigy, Tool, Snoop Dogg, Korn, and Beck. (Oh, the '90s.)
