Local eateries charging for tap water—for charity
It's part of UNICEF's Tap Project drive to benefit kids in need of fresh water.
UNICEF, Mayor R.T. Rybak, and participating restaurants (Red Stag Supperclub, Barbette, and Manny's Tortas among others) are giving you the chance to pay for your tap water while you’re eating out this weekend. Unlike your tax dollars, however, this money isn’t putting more Turkish rugs on Wall Street—one buck fills enough Dixie cups with filtered water to keep a parched child somewhere in the world hydrated for 40 days. It’s UNICEF’s Tap Project, the feature attraction of World Water Week (March 22-28). Of course, if you refuse to pay for any fluids that don't have a proof rating, there’s a party at Aqua nightclub tonight featuring M.anifest, belly dancers, “aquatic painted models,” and drink specials starting at 10pm with a cover of $5 (part of which goes to the Tap Project). World Water Week wraps up at Seven on Saturday, with a showing of Irena Salina’s film FLOW: For The Love Of Water at 6 p.m. followed by an open reception featuring complimentary wine, appetizers, and a chance to make “100% tax deductible” donations to water projects at the door.
