Lollapalooza '09 lineup announced

This summer the Chicago festival goes back to its past

The lineup for Lollapalooza 2009—slated for Aug. 7-9 at Grant Park in Chicago—has been announced, and it looks a lot like a lineup from the original Lollapalooza years in the early ’90s: Depeche Mode, Tool, Beastie Boys, and Jane’s Addiction are the big headliners, along with relative pups The Killers and Kings Of Leon. Lou Reed has also been tapped to grumble through some old Velvet Underground tunes. (Maybe Bill Clinton will be in the house to play sax on “Walk On The Wild Side.”)

Fans of bands popularized this decade will have to go a little further down the list to get excited, though there is plenty to be excited about: Ben Harper And Relentless7, TV On The Radio, Vampire Weekend, The Decemberists, Neko Case, Animal Collective, Band Of Horses, Of Montreal, Fleet Foxes, The Gaslight Anthem, and Los Campesinos! are just some of the more notable names.

For a complete lineup, go here. You’ll likely find a lot of bands you like a lot, but none that you really love in that Radiohead or Wilco kind of way. Or maybe we’re completely wrong about that.
